Resend is an American software company that provides an email platform designed for developers.
The company offers tools and infrastructure for sending transactional and marketing emails through APIs, as well as a framework for building emails using modern frontend technologies.
History
[edit]Resend was founded in 2023 by Zeno Rocha (CEO) and Bu Kinoshita (CTO).
The company was created to simplify the process of integrating email functionality into web applications, aiming to address the limitations of legacy email service providers by offering a developer-centric experience.
Resend was part of the Y Combinator accelerator program[1], which provided the company with early-stage funding and mentorship.
In July 2023, Resend announced a $3 million seed round led by Y Combinator, with participation from angel investors including Dylan Field (CEO of Figma) and Guillermo Rauch (CEO of Vercel).[2][3]
In December 2024, Resend raised an $18 million Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).[4][5] The funding was aimed at expanding its product offerings and scaling its infrastructure to meet growing demand.
Reception
[edit]Resend has been noted for its developer-first approach to email infrastructure, and for its open-source project, React Email, that allows developers to build responsive email templates using React, Tailwind CSS, and TypeScript.
The company has been featured in several case studies and interviews[6] highlighting its growth from launch to its early customer base, which scaled to 20,000 developers within 9 months of its initial release[7] and 100,000 developers in 15 months.[8]
