ReadAWrite (รีดอะไร้ต์) is a large reading and publishing platform in Thailand, developed by Meb Corporation Ltd. It is categorised in the books and reference category to serve a community for writers and readers with a various range of genres,[1] from romance, drama, fantasy, sci-fi, and horror to martial arts and historical Chinese fiction, and it support LGBTQ+ diversity by featuring heterosexual romance and homosexual romance subcatagory.[2]
Both writers and readers benefit from the design system, which includes separate sections for novels and comics, genre categorization, a coin system, and donation.[2] This allows writers to earn money from readers who appreciate their work.
ReadAWrite is not only the publishing platform. It also naturally builds the community for authors and readers through interaction from having conversations and exchanging ideas in the comments. Moreover, authors can receive the feedback directly.[3]
History
[edit]ReadAwrite was launched in 2017 by Meb Corporation, Thailand’s leading e-book provider. The company sought to address the evolving needs of digital readers and writers by offering an online platform dedicated to the publication and consumption of digital literature.[2]
Owner
ReadAwrite was founded by Chai—Ravi Mahasith, also known as Chai, is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Meb Corporation. In 2017, he established the ReadAwrite platform under the operations of Meb Corporation as a space for publishing and reading online novels for both amateur and professional writers.[2]
ReadAwrite was developed as a channel to facilitate content creation and support the growing trend of digital reading in Thailand. He plays a direct role in setting the direction and development of the ReadAwrite platform, ensuring it aligns with the trends in the digital book market and the behaviors of online readers.[4] ReadAwrite is an integral part of Meb Corporation's strategy to expand the digital literature market in Thailand.[5]
Growth and funding
Since its inception in 2017, ReadAwrite has experienced steady growth in both its user base and content offerings, quickly establishing itself as one of Thailand’s leading online novel platforms.[2] The platform’s development and expansion have been entirely supported by Meb Corporation, Thailand’s foremost e-book provider, without the need for external funding rounds.[5]
As of December 31, 2022, Meb Corporation reported annual revenues of approximately 1.68 billion Thai Baht (around $47.9 million), demonstrating the strong market demand for digital literature in Thailand. The platform’s growth is driven by its extensive content library, which spans various genres, and its ability to attract both amateur and professional writers.[3]
In the late November 2024, ReadAWrite ranked as the second top e-book app in Thailand on the Apple App Store - highlighting its strong position in the country’s digital reading market.[6]
Sister app
The Meb app, created by Meb Corporation—widely known as Thailand's largest digital bookstore—is ReadAwrite's sister app.[5] While ReadAwrite focuses on enabling users to publish and read online novels in a community-driven environment, the Meb app provides access to a professionally curated library of e-books, novels, comics, and magazines. The Meb app offers an enhanced reading experience by allowing users to adjust font sizes, change background colors, and bookmark pages for easy reference. This seamless integration of interactive and curated content within the Meb Corporation ecosystem allows the company to cater to a broad spectrum of digital reading preferences in Thailand.[7]
In 2024, Meb has grown continuously through the first nine-month sale statistic. According to the management's analysis and explanation, for the third quarter ending September 30, 2024, Meb sold nearly 1.6 billion baht in the first nine months of 2024, with the book and literary category accounting for 75% of total sales, or over 1.2 billion baht, with e-books from the ReadAWrite platform accounting for 5.5% of the total.[8]
Feature and service
[edit]ReadAwrite is a platform for the author and reader community, where authors able to independently publish their projects through the world.[9] The system categorises works into 3 major types: Novel, Fan fiction (chat novels), and Comic. Each of these type surround by its own subcategories.
Novel consists of 21 subcategories, include: romantic novels, young adult romance, chaotic romance, romance, ancient Chinese romance, Boy Love Lovely Room, Boy Love Party Room, Girl Love Lovely Room, Girl Love Party Room, fantasy/online games/other worlds, sci-fi, adventure/action/martial arts, mystery, horror, social reflection, alternate pathways, informative content, personal stories/diaries, miscellaneous topics, and youth literature.
Fan fiction consists of 13 subcategories, including: Boy Love fiction, Girl Love fiction, Yaoi station, คืนฟ้าหม่น(Drama), ป่าเวทมนต์(Fantasy), คาเฟ่อมยิ้ม (Comedy), ในห้วงอดีต(Historical period), สถานีดีกับใจ(Feel good), แฟ้มคดีสีเลือด(Detective), คืนโหยหวน(Mystery), มิติควานตัม(Sci-fi), เรื่องราวประจำวัน(Slice of life),and ธงสีรุ้ง (LGBTQ+).
Comic consists of 4 subcategories, including: Original comic, Dojin, Illustration, and Fan art.
Proof
[edit]“Proof” is a program that is designed to help authors check the work by using a simple instructions “copy, paste, and check."[10] It makes the users able to know their error by displaying the total number of words that are possible to be incorrect, and highlighting the word that considered to be wrong.
Users can submit their writing in various type, including research articles, academic papers, correspondence, etc. Moreover, Proof is the free of charge service, which all individual allows to use.[10]
Coin System
[edit]In ReadAWrite, Mebcoin is used for purchasing novels or making donations to favorite authors. In order to purchase the coin, there are 2 methods: the first is purchase through the Mebcoin website. And, The second method is purchase through the ReadAWrite application by in-app purchase system. In this method, it will automatically associate with the App Store and Google Play Store.[11]
Wink
[edit]Wink is the special feature available for readers who purchase the novel or donate to the authors at least 60 coins within a month.[12] Wink includes 3 exclusive features. The Text to Speak feature is the feature that automatically reads out narrated novels, which is available only in the app, the special photo frames, and the special sticker set.[12]
