ReachingNOVA (born Mark Anthony Nieves) is an American hip hop artist, songwriter, and cultural specialist from The Bronx, New York. Known for his introspective lyrics and dedication to hip hop’s foundational values, he co-founded the independent label Kings Legacy and has released multiple critically regarded projects.

Career

ReachingNOVA began his music career in 2004. In 2011, he released his debut mixtape The Dark Shade Thru My Lens, followed by The New King in 2012, both in collaboration with labelmate Pusha Preme. These projects received recognition in the New York hip hop scene for their lyricism and depth.

In 2016, he released his debut solo album It’s About Time, which was praised by Jamsphere Magazine for its storytelling and strong production.[1] The single "Beach Waves" became a fan favorite. This was followed by It Was What It Was in 2017 and Legends in 2020, a joint project with fellow rapper Teemonee.

Musical Style and Influences

ReachingNOVA is known for his conscious lyricism and classic East Coast hip hop sound. Publications like IndiePulse Music and MusicExistence have compared his storytelling and musical style to the “Golden Age” of hip hop, likening him to artists such as Nas and Common.[2]

Personal Life

ReachingNOVA is a Bronx native and father of one. He has been with his wife, Vanessa, for over 13 years. He actively advocates for the cultural preservation of hip hop and community upliftment.

Recognition

In 2024, he was awarded the Hip Hop Kultural Specialist Certification by legendary rapper KRS-One for his dedication to the authentic principles of hip hop.
