Rasul Beg was a Kurdish noble and the brother of Muhammad Pasha of Rawanduz, ruler of the Soran Emirate in the early 19th century. He succeeded his brother briefly after Muhammad Pasha’s death in 1838.[1][2][3]

Background

[edit]

Rasul Beg was born in the town of Rawanduz in the late 18th century, into the ruling family of the Soran Emirate. He was the son of Mustafa Pasha and belonged to the powerful Kurdish aristocracy of the region. His brother, Muhammad Pasha, known as Mirê Kor (the blind prince), ruled the emirate from 1816 until his death Leading Kurdistan to the Independency under his banner in the Rawanduz Revolt.[1]

Reign

[edit]

Following the death of Muhammad Pasha of Rawanduz, Rasul Beg assumed leadership of the emirate. His rule was short-lived and occurred during a period of instability in the region, as the Ottoman Empire sought to tighten control over its Kurdish territories and suppress Independent principalities like Soran.[1][3]

Legacy

[edit]

Little is known about Rasul Beg's policies or accomplishments during his brief reign. His leadership marked the beginning of the decline of the Soran Emirate, which soon fell under direct Ottoman administration.[2]
