"Pilot's Code" is the third episode of the second season of the American docu-comedy series The Rehearsal, and the ninth episode overall. Written and directed by the series' creator Nathan Fielder, alongside Carrie Kemper, Adam Locke-Norton, and Eric Notarnicola, it first aired on HBO in the United States and Canada on May 4, 2025.

Plot

[edit]

In Lone Tree, Colorado, Fielder meets with Monique and Bogdan, a couple who recently cloned their deceased dog Achilles. They are unhappy with the fact that while the clones (Apollo, Zeus, and Theseus) look like Achilles, their personalities are vastly different. Fielder suggests that these differences in behavior stem from the environment in which the clones are being raised; while Achilles grew up in a small apartment in San Jose, California, the clones live in a spacious home with access to a backyard. This leads Fielder to wonder whether the clones can obtain the traits of Achilles if they experience his upbringing. To test his hypothesis, he recreates the couple's old apartment, relocating Zeus to live there with actors who assume the roles of Monique and Bogdan. Initially unsuccessful, the experiment ultimately yields a result when Zeus begins to mimic the behavior of cat also living in the apartment, something Achilles was known to do.
