Introduction
[edit]Partech is a global technology investment firm headquartered in Paris, France. The firm manages over €2.5 billion in assets[1] and invests across seed, venture, and growth stages. Partech operates offices in Berlin, San Francisco, Dakar, Lagos, Nairobi, and Dubai, supporting a portfolio of companies active in over 40 countries across four continents.
History
Partech was founded in 1982 in San Francisco as the corporate venture arm of Paribas Bank, originally named Paribas Technologies.[2] It soon became an independent venture capital firm and in 1996 it established a European presence with the opening of its Paris office. In 2008, the firm was acquired by two of its managing partners, Jean-Marc Patouillaud and Philippe Collombel.[3] Since then, Partech has expanded its geographic and investment scope, launching several funds targeting companies from early-stage startups to late-stage scale-ups.
Investment Strategies
[edit]Seed Funds
[edit]Partech’s seed-stage strategy, known as Partech Entrepreneur, invests in early-stage technology companies. The most recent seed fund, Partech Entrepreneur IV, closed in December 2022 with €120 million in commitments.[4] Notable portfolio companies from this strategy include Alan[5], a digital health insurer, and Quibim[6], a medical imaging company.
Venture Funds
Partech's venture strategy focuses on Series A and B investments in high-growth companies with scalable business models.[7] The most recent vehicle, Partech Venture, was announced in 2023 with a target of €360 million.[8] Portfolio companies include ManoMano[9], an e-commerce platform for home improvement, and Fresha[10], a business platform for wellness services.
Africa Funds
[edit]Launched in 2018, Partech Africa focuses on technology companies operating across the African continent. The firm closed its second Africa-focused fund, Partech Africa II, in 2024 at €280 million.[11] Investments include fintech platforms such as Wave[12] and small business service providers like Yoco.[13]
Growth Funds
Partech Growth supports later-stage companies with established traction. Partech Growth II closed in 2023 with €650 million in capital.[14] The strategy has backed companies such as Prolific,[15] a participant research platform, and Amboss,[16] a medical knowledge resource.
Impact Fund
Launched in 2023, the Partech Impact Fund invests in European companies addressing environmental and social challenges through technology. The fund closed with €300 million in commitments.[17] Portfolio companies include SustainCERT, which verifies climate impact claims,[18] and Gireve, a platform for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.[19]
