The company is headquartered in Taipei and it has subsidiaries and branch offices in the United States, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia[4].

The company has also collaborated with companies including VISA[6], Stellar Development Foundation[7], Circle[1], MoneyGram[8], CoinBase[1], SumSub[1] andMoonPay[1] on payment-related services.
In 2025 CB Insights included the company in its stablecoin market map, identifying it as one of the top two companies in the “Enterprise & B2B" sector[9]. That same year, OBOOK Holdings Inc., filed a confidential F-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a planned direct listing on the Nasdaq Global Market[4][10].
History
[edit]2010-Origins and early services
[edit]The business traces its roots to 2010, when Darren Wang, a software engineer born in the Taiwanese fishing village of Badouzi, returned from Silicon Valley to start a company aimed at improving food safety. Wang had previously worked at Google and other technology start‑ups. He created the platform to provide “fresh milk and healthy foods for the kids” and personally visited farms around Taiwan to select vendors. OwlTing initially operated an online marketplace called OwlTing Market selling milk, fruit and other products.
The company built OwlTing Map to display producers on a digital map, and by 2017 it sourced products from more than 1,500 farmers and merchants. Customers of the marketplace had an average order value exceeding US$60 and a repeat‑purchase rate around 70%. In 2014 OwlTing partnered with Taiwanese exchange MaiCoin to accept bitcoin for checkout, becoming what it described as Asia’s first e‑commerce platform to accept the cryptocurrency[2][11].
2017
[edit]The company announced OwlChain, an Ethereum‑based food provenance system that uses a consortium blockchain to make supply chains tamper‑resistant. OwlChain, which the company described as the world’s first blockchain food traceability system. The platform uses the blockchain infrastructure and provides an open API so that other vendors can add data to the chain. OwlTing stated that the transparent ledger would improve trust in Taiwan’s food industry and said that additional participants, including Taiwan Agricultural Global Marketing, Sinhong Soy Sauce and other producers, were preparing to join the network[12].
Later in 2017 the company entered the hospitality sector with OwlNest, a hotel management system built on Ethereum. OwlNest combines a booking engine, property‑management system and channel manager, using smart contracts to allow hotels to manage inventory and accept payments. The system aimed to reduce staffing costs and prevent over‑booking by recording reservations on a blockchain. The release described OwlNest as the world’s first blockchain‑based hotel management service and noted that OwlTing was already working with hotels in the United States, Taiwan, Japan and Malaysia[1][13].
2018
[edit]OwlTing announced that SBI Crypto Investment, a subsidiary of Japan’s SBI Holdings, had made an eight‑figure USD investment in exchange for a 20% equity[14][15].
2019
[edit]OwlTing subsequently introduced other blockchain services. It launched OwlCheck, an anti‑counterfeiting system for verifying product authenticity, and in 2019 announced OwlTing Blockchain Services (OBS), a platform that offers blockchain solutions to industries such as hospitality, agriculture and government. According to the company, OBS was used to build a traceability system for Taiwan’s forest products[3].
2021
[edit]In late 2021, the company rolled out OwlPay, a payment service designed to help businesses manage orders and settlements. The platform combined reconciliation tools with bulk payment functions and allowed companies to automate payment flows, while partner vendors could reconcile and confirm receipts through the same system to reduce manual processes. The first phase was launched in collaboration with Cathay United Bank, which provided APIs for integrating order and supplier data into enterprise systems and enabled businesses to conduct payments directly through the bank without logging into online banking[16][17].
2022
[edit]OwlTing collaborated with Circle to enable the use of USD Coin (USDC) for cross-border settlement, allowing businesses to convert U.S. dollar deposits into USDC and select blockchain networks for payment processing[18].
The company also worked with the global platform for modern money movement Nium[19], compliance technology provider Napier and adopted the Dow Jones Watchlist for customer‑due‑diligence measures. OwlPay processes payments via traditional bank rails and stablecoins and offers integration through APIs; the company claimed the service had processed more than US$12 million in volume by mid‑2022. At that time OwlTing described itself as a “global blockchain services company” with branch offices in the United States, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore[20].
Later in 2022, OwlTing expanded OwlPay’s domestic presence through a partnership with First Bank in Taiwan, offering API-based integration for order management, reconciliation, and batch payments to support enterprise digital transformation[21].
OwlTing was named among the top 10 emerging giant companies in Taiwan in KPMG and HSBC’s “Emerging Giants in Asia Pacific” report[22].
2023
[edit]The company acquired PayNow, a prominent Taiwanese payment gateway service provider[23].
2024
[edit]The company launched OwlPay Wallet Pro, a digital wallet that supports stablecoins such as USDC and is integrated with the Stellar blockchain. The service was designed for cross-border payments and offered features for both individual and enterprise users[24].
In the same year, the company completed Series C and C+ funding round. The Stellar Development Foundation contributed about USD$3 million, while additional backing came from family offices, venture capital firms, and investors in Taiwan and Japan[25], including UNIVA OAK Holdings[26].
2025
[edit]In 2025, OwlTing launched OwlPay Harbor, an API-based service for stablecoin on- and off-ramping[27], and OwlPay Stablecoin Checkout, which allows merchants to accept stablecoin payments and settle in fiat[28]. The company also partnered with GMO Trust to expand offerings in Japanese yen stablecoins[29].
The group’s parent company, OBOOK Holdings Inc., filed for a planned direct listing on the Nasdaq Global Market[4][10]. In the same year, CB Insights ranked OwlTing among the top two global players in the "Enterprise & B2B" sector in stablecoin market map in 2025[9]
On Oct. 16, the company is officially listed on the Nasdaq Global Market. Shares of the company opened at $68 per share, higher than the reference price of $10. At market close on the same day, the price of $55.55 per share placed OBOOK's market capitalisation at around $4.9 billion.[30]

[edit]OwlTing is registered as a Money Services Business (MSB) with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN)[1]. The company has also pursued Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs) in the United States, reporting coverage in 39 states[31]
