Orange Milk Records is an American independent record label founded in 2010 by Keith Rankin and Seth Graham in Dayton, Ohio.[1][2] The label focuses on experimental electronic music, including vaporwave, glitch, sound collage, and avant-garde pop.[3]
History
[edit]Orange Milk Records was established in late 2010 by Keith Rankin (who records as Giant Claw) and Seth Graham after meeting in Dayton, Ohio.[1][3] According to Rankin, the founders were motivated by a desire to release their own music and to participate in the underground synthesizer and noise music scene developing around 2008–2009.[4]
Rankin told DMY: "We had been aware of a harsh noise phenomenon, particularly in Ohio where we had been living, but that was evolving into something else. People were fetishizing synths and '70s German electronic music and experimenting with more free composition. I think we wanted to be a part of that evolution at that moment."[1]
Operations and aesthetic
[edit]In a 2014 Impose Magazine interview, Graham described their approach as “curation down the internet rabbit holes of SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and the like.”[5] Bandcamp Daily reported that Graham’s fluency in Japanese and upbringing in Japan contributed to the label’s connections with Japanese experimental electronic artists.[3]
Rankin and Graham divide operational duties, with Rankin handling most visual art responsibilities while both founders work on artist relations and business aspects.[4] The label typically releases music on cassette tape, vinyl, and digital formats through Bandcamp.[2]
Notable artists and releases
[edit]Orange Milk Records has released music by a number of experimental artists, including:
- Giant Claw (Keith Rankin) – Dark Web (2014)
 - Jerry Paper – International Man of Misery (2013) and Big Pop for Chameleon World (2014)
 - Foodman (Takahide Higuchi) – Shokuhin (2012) and Ez Minzoku (2016)
 - Seth Graham – solo work and collaborations with Rankin as Cream Juice
 - Death's Dynamic Shroud – Vaporwave project featuring Keith Rankin

Reception
[edit]VWMusic described Orange Milk Records as maintaining a regular monthly release schedule.[2] Coverage in outlets such as Tiny Mix Tapes, Bandcamp Daily, and Impose Magazine has discussed the label’s role in releasing underground electronic music and highlighting Japanese artists.[5][3]
