Open Integration Engine (OIE) is an open-source healthcare integration engine designed for health information exchange and interoperability. It is a fork of Mirth Connect that maintains a vendor-neutral, community-driven development model.^[1]

History

Open Integration Engine was created as a fork of Mirth Connect in 2025, following NextGen Healthcare's announcement that Mirth Connect would transition from a dual open-source and commercial licensing model to a single commercial licensing model.^[2]^[3] The project was initiated to preserve open-source healthcare integration capabilities and ensure continued community access to the technology.^[4]
