The Norfolk and Western K2 class were a class of 4-8-2 "mountain" type steam locomotives that operated on the Norfolk and Western Railway.

History

[edit]

During World War I, the United States Railroad Administration began supplying locomotives across different railroads. The USRA supplied the Norfolk and Western with 10 USRA Heavy Mountain locomotives built by the American Locomotive Company in 1919. [1] Another batch of 4-8-2's classified as K2a we’re copies built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1923 numbered 126-137.

In the lates 1940's. The K2 and K2a's were streamlined in a similar fasion to that of the Norfolk and Western J class.[2] They were eventually taken out of service and were scrapped between 1957-1959.
