Nick Nace is a Canadian-born folk singer-songwriter whose music blends Americana, country, and roots traditions. Known for his literate songwriting and understated delivery, he first gained recognition as one half of the New York-based folk duo A Brief View of the Hudson, before launching a solo career in Nashville, Tennessee.[1]
Early Career
[edit]Nace began performing in New York City in the early 2000s with A Brief View of the Hudson. The duo released the EP Go North to Find Me in 2004[2] and a full length LP Querencia in 2013. [3] In 2011 they recorded the soundtrack for, and appeared in, Tell Your Friends! The Concert Film, featuring Reggie Watts & Kristen Schaal. [4]
Solo Work
[edit]After relocating to Nashville, Nace became active in the city’s Americana and songwriter community. He opened for artists including Hayes Carll, and has toured extensively with East Nashville's Darrin Bradbury, and Jon Latham.[5] In 2023 he co-wrote the title track to folksinger Rod Picott's album Starlight Tour.[6]
His debut solo album, Wrestling with the Mystery (2019), was noted for its sharp lyricism, roots-driven production, and its wry sense of humor.[7] His songwriting had been compared to the likes of James McMurtry, Slaid Cleaves, & Justin Townes Earle.[8]
His follow-up, The Harder Stuff (2022), was praised for its high quality songwriting.[9]
