Comment: The draft's subject appears to be hardly notable. Several pharagraphs go with no references as well. Please add more reliable and independent sources. If possible, make it more substantial such as the version found in the Spanish wikipedia. NeoGaze (talk) 22:45, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

Nechite is a locality in Spain belonging to the municipality of Válor, in the province of Granada, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is situated in the eastern part of the Alpujarra Granadina region. It is near the villages of Mecina Alfahar, Júbar and Mairena.
The village has some environmental and landscape protections as it is located within the Sierra Nevada National Park. The chestnut tree is a typical feature of the landscape, with some specimens believed to be over four centuries old.
History
[edit]It is believed that the origin of Nechite dates to the Roman era, when inhabitants from Adra followed the Adra River in search of farmland, leading them into the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Nechite was an independent municipality until it was merged with Válor in 1943, becoming a district of that municipality.
Neighborhoods
[edit]Nechite has three main neighborhoods: Barrio de la Iglesia (Church Neighborhood), Barrio de Santa Lucía, and San Blas.
Barrio de la Iglesia
[edit]
Also known as "Barrio Antiguo" (Old Neighborhood), this is the main and historically most populated neighborhood. It contains the Church of la Virgen de la Antigua, dedicated to Nechite's patron saint. The church is located in a small square that once held the local school and clinic; these services are no longer available due to rural depopulation. Local festivities are typically celebrated here.
Barrio de Santa Lucía
[edit]
This neighborhood features a small square with a fountain and a children's playground. The "Fuente del Rojo" is also located here.
San Blas
[edit]
The highest neighborhood in Nechite, San Blas contains a large swimming pool filled by the "Acequia Real", which channels water from the Nechite River for irrigation. The traditional grain-threshing floors (eras) are also located here.
Places of interest
[edit]
This is an easy, 1.5-kilometer trail connecting Nechite and Válor, forming part of the longer European GR-7 long-distance path. As Nechite is situated higher than Válor, the trail has an elevation change of approximately 100 meters.
Fuente Martín
[edit]
The Fuente Martín (Martín Fountain) is known locally for its high-quality water. The fountain's name likely originates from a former owner named Martín.[2] Originally a spring under a chestnut tree, it was relocated downhill and completely rebuilt in 1983[2] and again in 2024.
Fuente del Rojo
[edit]
Located in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, this fountain is named the "Red Fountain" ("Fuente del Rojo") due to reddish staining, possibly from iron in the water. It is also known as "Manantial del Rojo" ("Red Spring") and "Fuente Colorada".
Church of la Virgen de la Antigua
[edit]The church was converted from a former Muslim mosque. Built in the early 16th century, it was destroyed and later rebuilt in the 17th century. It features Mudéjar style and houses a wooden statue of the Virgin of La Antigua, the patroness of Nechite.[3]
