Nadia Vivar (born April 8, 2000) is a Peruvian-American singer, songwriter, and producer from Manchester, Connecticut. Performing under the alias NadaButVibes, she is known for genre-blending soundscapes and emotionally reflective lyrics that explore themes of trauma, spiritual healing, sensuality, and personal transformation.
Early life and background
[edit]Nadia Nicole Vivar was born in Manchester, Connecticut, the only U.S.-born member of her immediate Peruvian family. She attended Assumption School, a private Catholic institution located in Manchester, from Pre-K through 8th grade. In high school, she transferred to Public Safety Academy (later renamed Civic Leadership High School), where she was introduced to a broader range of cultural, secular, and social experiences.
Vivar played competitive soccer from age five through her late teens, participating in school, travel, and premier teams. In 2018, she enrolled at Eastern Connecticut State University and played for the ECSU Women’s Soccer team. After completing one academic year, she left the university and gradually shifted her focus to music.
With no formal training in music theory, she began teaching herself music production using YouTube tutorials, learning to record, arrange, and mix while working jobs to support herself and her family. During this time, she connected with artist and producer A Marquise (Antonio Kershaw), a close friend and collaborator with whom she began developing and sharing creative ideas.
Career
[edit]Vivar debuted as NadaButVibes in 2023 with her first single, "Fractured," written about her grandmother’s broken marriage. Her work often blends ambient textures, Spanish and English lyrics, and solfeggio healing frequencies (396 Hz, 432 Hz, 528 Hz). Her music ranges from atmospheric Latin-R&B ballads to emotionally rich Afrobeats-infused tracks.
In 2025, she released her debut EP, La Vida Entera, a conceptual project that explores themes of grief, femininity, spiritual healing, and cycles of rebirth. The EP features five Spanish-language songs and one English-language track, "Querida II."
Her singles “A Dream” and “No Doubt” became streaming successes, surpassing 14,000 and 16,000 plays on Spotify respectively, with “A Dream” also gaining over 60,000 YouTube views. In 2025, she released "New Time," continuing her focus on inner clarity and independence.
She has performed at several regional music events including:
- Urban Latin Awards at the Lua Lounge, Newark, NJ – 31 May 2023
- YTH Festival at the Webster Theater, Hartford, CT – 9 June 2024
- Hartford Taste on Pratt Street, Hartford, CT – 7 June 2025
- Hartbeat Festival at the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, Hartford, CT – 14 June 2025
Artistry and Influences
[edit]NadaButVibes’s sound blends R&B, soul, Latin fusion, Afrobeats, and ambient production with experimental pop. Her use of solfeggio frequencies, atmospheric layering, and vocal textures creates a deeply introspective and evocative sound. Her lyrics explore grief, transformation, identity, spirituality, and sensuality.
Her musical influences include:
- Alina Baraz – for ambient R&B aesthetics
- Majid Jordan – for smooth, melodic production
- Juan Luis Guerra and Juan Luis Perales – for Latin romanticism and poetic lyricism
- Lolo Zouaï – for bilingual storytelling and genre fusion
Her single “One Single Color” draws influence from Afrobeats through its rhythm and softness, blending percussive groove with lush vocals.
