Multi-Wing is a Danish manufacturer of axial fans and impellers for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R), industrial cooling, powertrain systems, and data center applications. Headquartered in Vedbæk, Denmark, the company operates production and service hubs across Europe, Asia, North America, South America, and Australia.[1]
Its product range includes modular impellers and fully assembled axial fan units, designed for energy efficiency, low noise, and high performance in demanding environments. Multi-Wing serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) through localized engineering and a modular design approach.[2]
The company has been majority-owned by Swedish private equity firm Altor Equity Partners since 2021, supporting ongoing investments in production capacity and operational development.
History
[edit]Founding and Early Years (1938–1970s)
[edit]Multi-Wing was established in 1938 by Danish entrepreneur Finn Sigurd Andersen under the name FS Andersen, initially supplying hand tools and oil filters to businesses in Denmark.[1]
In 1958, after acquiring a Citroën DS19, Andersen was inspired by its cooling fan design. Working together with his cousin Harald, he developed a modular plastic impeller composed of interchangeable components, a concept that laid the foundation for the company’s future in fan technology.[3]
Multi-Wing entered the U.S. market in 1972, when Multi-Wing America was founded as its American affiliate to serve North American customers.[4][5] For decades it operated in partnership with the Crowley Company. In 2019, Multi-Wing completed the incorporation of Multi-Wing America Inc.,[6] its long-standing U.S. affiliate, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Multi-Wing Group A/S, Denmark.[7][8]
Mergers and Acquisitions
[edit]Multi-Wing has expanded its operations through several acquisitions. In June 2021, the Swedish private equity firm Altor Equity Partners acquired a majority stake in Multi-Wing Group A/S. The transaction marked a shift in ownership aimed at supporting the company’s long-term development.[2]
In April 2022, Multi-Wing acquired Fabrika Special Motors, a Danish manufacturer of customized electric motors and a long-term partner. The acquisition brought electric motor development in-house and included the transfer of key technical personnel.[9]
In October 2023, Multi-Wing acquired VIP Air Empowerment S.r.l., an Italian company producing axial fans for HVAC/R applications. Founded in 1985, VIP had previously worked with Multi-Wing as a supplier and collaborator. The acquisition maintained VIP’s existing management and integrated its renewable energy infrastructure into Multi-Wing’s broader sustainability initiatives.[10]
These acquisitions have expanded Multi-Wing’s manufacturing scope and product integration capabilities across motors, fan assemblies, and regional supply chains.[1]
Global presence
[edit]As of 2025, Multi-Wing operates 14 production sites and 19 sales offices across six continents, supplying axial fan and impeller systems to customers in more than 80 countries.[11] The company is headquartered in Vedbæk, Denmark, with key manufacturing operations in the Czech Republic, the United States, China, India, and Italy.[12]
Products
[edit]Multi-Wing designs and manufactures axial fan systems and modular impellers for industrial airflow applications.[13] Its product range includes plastic and aluminum impellers, airfoil blades in various profiles, modular hubs, and complete fan assemblies.[14]
The company’s modular design approach allows component customization to suit application-specific requirements including airflow, noise level, and energy efficiency. Multi-Wing also offers a digital configuration tool, Optimiser, to support impeller selection based on performance parameters.[15]
In 2023, Multi-Wing acquired the motor manufacturer Fabrika Special Motors, expanding its capabilities to include integrated motor and drive systems alongside impeller assemblies.[16] These solutions are often applied in space-constrained or preassembled units.
All products comply with relevant regional standards and are developed with consideration to energy efficiency, durability, and material adaptability.[17]
Sustainability
[edit]Multi-Wing has integrated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into its corporate strategy. In 2023, the company joined the United Nations Global Compact and in 2024 submitted its first Communication on Progress.[18] The same year, its greenhouse gas reduction targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company has committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.[19]
Several facilities operate on renewable energy, with initiatives such as solar installations, electrification of mobile fleets, and the installation of heat pumps. Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are reported annually, while Scope 3 emissions are addressed through supplier engagement and monitoring of sourcing and logistics.[19]
Environmental and safety management is supported by ISO-certified systems. Some facilities hold ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.[20] In 2024, the company reported zero high-consequence injuries.[19]
In 2025, Multi-Wing published its first ESG report, covering 2024 performance data, and received a bronze rating from EcoVadis.[21]
