Draft:Monkeytype
Submission declined on 18 April 2025 by BuySomeApples (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of web content). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Comment: The sourcing unfortunately just isn't there. The Github sources are primary sources, so they aren't helpful for notability. Dev.to and Medium look like user-generated content and not really an indicia for notability. The Keyboard Builders Digest interview is a good start, but the article needs more significant coverage from reliable sources not so directly involved with the subject. Monkeytype is an open-source[2] singleplayer browser-based typing website. It was launched in May 2020.[3]
History
[edit]In an interview, Jack Midec, the creator of Monkeytype, explained that another typing website, typings.gg, inspired him to create his own typing site. This project was called MMTT (midec's minimalistic typing test). This project was later abandoned.[4]
Nine months later, Midec reattempted this idea, and created another typing test, which he posted on Reddit. The post gained some popularity, and Midec continued to improve his test. Monkeytype was officially released on May 15, 2020.[4]
Usage
[edit]The website generates random words for the user to type. The website shows the user's words per minute (WPM), and their accuracy. The website also has a minimalistic design.[5] The user can also choose between different modes, create an account, and adjust built-in features.[3][6] The user can export typing results in the CSV format.[7]
