Milo Schield

Milo Schield is an American statistical educator. He is the author of Statistical Literacy: Critical Thinking about Everyday Statistics.[1]

Schield's statistical literacy course was adopted by the University of New Mexico in 2021.[2]

Statistical literacy is offered at the University of New Mexico (UNM Math 1300)[3] and at New College of Florida (NCF STAN 2720).[4]

Schield is a Fellow with the American Statistical Association, an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, a US representative[5] and board member[6] of the International Statistical Literacy Project, past- President of the National Numeracy Network, and is included in Who's Who.[7] Schield is a Professor Emeritus at Augsburg University (1985-2021).[8]. He is an Adjunct Research Professor at the University of New Mexico [9] and a Visiting Professor at New College of Florida.[10] Joel Best described Schield as "the leader of the statistical literacy movement."[11]

BIOGRAPHY

Schield was born in Anderson, Indiana and grew up in Waverly Iowa. He earned a BS in Physics at Iowa State University and an MS in Physics at the University of Illinois. He earned his PhD in Space Physics from Rice University.[12] While in business, he worked in computer sales and software, business consulting and casualty reinsurance. He lives in Sarasota FL with his wife, Cynthia Schield. He has four children.

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS

He has written over a hundred articles that have received over two-thousand citations.[13] Marc Isaacson and Schield co-authored Guide to Data Literacy.[14] Schield is the editor and owner of www.StatLit.org.
