Microsoft Universal Print is Microsoft's Cloud Based Print solution. Organizations with licenses to this product can streamline the way they manage print, and get rid of their print servers. Many organizations with Microsoft Enterprise licenses already have Universal Print included in their subscription.
Release date and updates
[edit]Microsoft released its Universal Print product on the first day of its Ignite Conference in April of 2021.[1] The original release included only 5 print jobs per month for customers with certain Windows or Microsoft 365 subscriptions.
In November 2023, Microsoft increased the number of jobs included per month in its service to 100 for customers with the following types of licenses, making the service more cost-effective:[2]
- Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3, E5
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium
In November 2024, Microsoft introduced the Public Preview for "Universal Print anywhere", which allows organizations to offer secure print release to their employees.[3] Administrators can create print queues with groups of printers, so that when end-users send a print job to the queue, they can walk up to any printer within that queue, scan a QR code, and release their print job.
Microsoft Universal Print Ready Printers
[edit]While Microsoft offers a connector service in order for IT Administrators to load legacy printers into Universal Print,[4] many Print Manufacturers have developed firmware to allow for their printers to natively connect with the Universal Print Service, reducing complexity and increasing functionality. The following printer models can be registered directly with Microsoft's Universal Print Service.[5]
