Michael McCormick is a veteran special effects artist, sculptor, puppeteer, and designer, with a career spanning over five decades. He is widely recognized for his expertise in design, fabrication, and performance in various areas of special effects, including makeup, creatures, puppetry, and special props. He has contributed to numerous films, television series, commercials, and theater productions.

Career

McCormick began his career as a professional sculptor and puppeteer in 1960, quickly establishing himself as a key player in the world of special effects. Over the years, he has worked on several landmark films and television productions, contributing his unique skills to both the design and performance aspects of the industry.

He also had a hand in the creation of a "Ghost Train Ride" at the National Wax Museum in Dublin, Ireland (2002-2003), where he was also responsible for daily puppet performances.

McCormick has taught at various institutions, including the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Haystack Mountain School for the Arts and Crafts in Maine. He has conducted workshops in mask-making and puppetry in Dublin, Ireland, and has also taught foundry methods and design at the University of New Mexico, University of Arizona, and California College of Art and Crafts.

Awards and Recognition

McCormick has earned recognition for his work, including a Regional Emmy Nomination for "Serving of Punch" (1987/1988), a 30-minute independent PBS production. He also won a New Mexico Music Industry Award for Best Score written for Television.
