Matt Strauss Chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group
Matt Strauss is an American media executive known for his leadership roles at Comcast, NBCUniversal, and other major media companies. He currently serves as the Chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, a position he has held since November 2024. Strauss has played a key role in shaping the digital media landscape, particularly in the realms of streaming, content distribution, and consumer technology.

Strauss holds a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Career
Early Career
Strauss began his career in the media industry as a financial analyst at ABC in the early stages of his professional life. His early experience in strategic planning provided a foundation for his later leadership roles. He also served as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Rainbow Media’s on-demand service, Mag Rack. During his tenure, he helped pioneer the video-on-demand model, which was among the first national on-demand networks.
Comcast
In 2007, Strauss joined Comcast, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the United States. He initially worked in the company’s cable division before transitioning to Comcast Cable, where he served as the Executive Vice President of Xfinity Services. In this capacity, Strauss was responsible for the strategy and development of Comcast’s products and services, serving over 30 million residential customers.
Strauss was instrumental in the launch of several innovative products, including Comcast’s cloud DVR service, in-home streaming across devices, and the voice remote, which later won an Emmy Award. His leadership in the Xfinity Services division helped Comcast solidify its position as a leader in the cable and broadband industries.
NBCUniversal
In 2019, Strauss was appointed to lead NBCUniversal’s direct-to-consumer initiatives. He was named Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and International Networks, where he oversaw the development of Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform. He played a critical role in the successful launch of Peacock in 2020, helping to drive significant subscriber growth and establish the platform as a major player in the streaming wars.
Strauss’s leadership at NBCUniversal also included overseeing key ventures such as the global expansion of NBCUniversal’s streaming services, online movie ticketing service Fandango, and the renowned movie review site Rotten Tomatoes. His work has been pivotal in redefining the live sports experience, including overseeing record-breaking viewership during the 2024 Olympics through an interactive, streaming hub.
In November 2024, Strauss was named Chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, where he now oversees all aspects of NBCUniversal’s television networks, sports, and digital media operations. His responsibilities include managing NBC, Bravo, Peacock, and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, among others.
