Mathias Nygaard is a Norwegian academic and professor of religious studies at Volda University College.[1] His work focuses on the history of religions, philosophy, and anthropology.
Nygaard holds a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Aberdeen and has held academic positions in Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Japan. He has been affiliated with institutions such as the University of Tübingen and Kobe University.
His publications cover such topics as historical religions, myth, and the role of belief systems and rituals in both religious and secular culture.[2][3][4][5] He was promoted to full professor at Volda in November 2024.[6]
