Markus Enzweiler (* 1979 in Merzig) is a German professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences.[1] He founded and heads the Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at that institution.[2]
Life and education
[edit]Markus Enzweiler studied computer science at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences and at Ulm University, including a study abroad period at the Centre for Vision Research at York University in Toronto, Canada. His academic focus was on computer vision and artificial intelligence. He was a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service and completed his studies in 2005 with a Master's degree. In 2011, he received his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) from Heidelberg University with the dissertation Compound Models for Vision-Based Pedestrian Recognition[3] and was awarded summa cum laude. From 2010 to 2021, he worked at Mercedes-Benz AG in the development of advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving. During this time, his main focus was on sensor-based environment perception using machine learning.
In 2021, Markus Enzweiler has been appointed as a professor for autonomous systems in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. He is a Junior Fellow of the German Informatics Society[4], co-author of widely cited publications[5], and recipient of multiple awards in the field of advanced driver assistance systems.
