Lucky Mehta (born 24 December 1982) is an Indian television and film actress, best known for her portrayal of Madhu in Subhash Ghai’s series Jaanaki. She has also appeared in shows such as Dev, Siddhi Vinayak, Bakula Bua Ka Bhoot and Janani, and in the feature film Rocket Gang.
Early life
[edit]Lucky Mehta was born and raised in Kota, Rajasthan. She graduated from JDB College, Vivekananda University, Kota in 2003.[citation needed] She later completed a fashion designing course at INIFD Mumbai (2005–2006).[citation needed]
Career
[edit]Mehta began her on-screen career with supporting roles in serials such as Siddhi Vinayak and Dev. Her first lead role came in the family-comedy drama Bakula Bua Ka Bhoot (2017) on Doordarshan. In 2021 she starred in the drama series Janani.
Breakthrough in Jaanaki
[edit]In 2023, Mehta secured her first leading role as Madhu in Subhash Ghai’s mythological drama Jaanaki, airing on Doordarshan.
Reception
[edit]According to The Times of India, director Subhash Ghai praised Mehta’s performance on the set of Jaanaki, with Mehta later recalling, “I was thrilled when Subhash Ghai sir praised my acting skills on the set of ‘Jaanaki’.”[1] She has also noted his “very unique working style,” calling it central to his success as a showman.[2]
Mentorship and recognition
[edit]Mehta credits fellow actress Rupali Ganguly as her “guru,” thanking her for recommending Mehta to J D Majethia’s production house after an ad shoot in 2016.[3]
Personal life
[edit]Mehta is a fitness enthusiast and often shares wellness tips. In an interview with "Asianet News Hindi", she outlined her daily regimen—combining strength training, yoga and a plant-based diet—to maintain her on-screen stamina.[4]
