Lighthouse Studios is a content production and animation studio.[1] founded in 2017 in Kilkenny, Ireland [2]. The studio has been housed in the historic building of St Kieran's College since 2018[3]. In 2019, Claire Finn was announced as the studio's Managing Director and has served in this position since [4].

Production Services and Clients

Lighthouse Studios provides production and animation services to clients such as Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.

To date, the studio has produced two adaptations of best-selling novels, including the BAFTA-winning mini-series El Deafo[5] for Apple TV+[6] and Bug Diaries for Amazon Prime. Both El Deafo and Bug Diaries were directed by Gilly Fogg, who currently serves as the studio's Head Creative[7].

Lighthouse Studios has also provided animation services on well-known adult and family titles including The Cuphead Show! for Netflix[8], Rick and Morty for Green Portal[9] and The Bob's Burgers Movie for Bento Box Entertainment[10].

Original Works

In 2024 the studio released its first original short film, Póg mo Pigeon, based on a concept by Polly Holland, who joined the studio in 2020 . Póg mo Pigeon is the directorial debut of Clíodhna Lyons. Póg mo Pigeon won the Best Animated Short award at the 2024 Foyle Film Festival[11].

The studio has also optioned the rights to develop animated adaptations of several books, including Savage Town by Declan Shalvey and Philip Barrett.

Lighthouse Studios is regularly represented at industry events. At the 2022 editon of Cartoon Forum, Stage Struck, the studio's co-production in development with Derry-based studio, Dog Ears, made the top-ten list of European co-productions and the top-ten list of most attended pitches [12].

Kilkenny Animated

Lighthouse Studios co-hosts the annual Kilkenny Animated Fesival with Cartoon Saloon and Schweppe Curtis Nunn Events [13]. Previous guests of the festival include Glen Keane, Joanna Quinn and James Baxter.

In 2025, Kilkenny Animated was announced as one of the recipients of funding through Coimisiún na Meán's Sponsorship Scheme[14]
