Jose Wiley is a Puerto Rican American physician-scientist, cardiologist and educator specializing in interventional cardiology.  He holds the Sidney W. and Marilyn S. Lassen Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, serves as Professor of Medicine, and the Chief of the Section of Cardiology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana.[1]  In addition, he is also the Cardiovascular Service Line Chair for the LCMC Health System, overseeing the cardiovascular service lines across the LCMC network of hospitals.

Early Life and Education

Dr. Wiley was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 11, 1966. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology at University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio in 1989. He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in 1994. He then pursued further training in internal medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine, where he completed his residency in 1998 and fellowship in cardiovascular disease in 2001. In 2002, he finished a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Ochsner Medical Center, New Orleans. Later, in 2014, Dr. Wiley obtained a Master of Public Health degree specializing in Health Policy and Management from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology and Endovascular Medicine, and holds medical licenses in the states of Louisiana and New York.

Military service

Dr. Wiley served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the North Dakota Army National Guard from 1994 until his honorable discharge in 2012. His military service included deployments to Operation Enduring Freedom (2004, 2006) and Operation Iraq Freedom (2009), where he served as a field surgeon. He was awarded the with the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his service.

Gift Project for Global Cardiovascular Health

In 2014, Dr. Wiley founded the Gift Project for Global Cardiovascular Health (GIVE)[2], a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) training to schoolchildren in developing countries. The GIVE project has conducted training initiatives in Albania and Kosovo, involving over 400 students and advocating for policy changes to improve public access to AEDs and mandatory CPR training in school curricula.[3][4][5][6]
