Irritec S.p.A. is an Italian company operating in the precision irrigation sector.[1] It is among the world leaders in sustainable irrigation and designs, manufactures and distributes solutions for drip irrigation in open field, greenhouse and residential sectors.

The group has a worldwide presence with 17 locations and more than 1,000 employees. It exhibits in more than 100 countries and is committed to the promotion of circular and sustainable economy with education and training activities.

History

Irritec was founded in 1974 in Capo d'Orlando, Sicily, from an entrepreneurial idea of the Giuffré family. Under the original business name of Siplast, the company began its business of manufacturing PVC roller blinds and, in later years, manufacturing polyethylene pipes, polypropylene fittings and valves, and drip wings.

From 1997, the company embarked on a gradual path of international expansion,[2] leading it to Spain,[3] Mexico,[4] Algeria, the United States,[5] Brazil, Germany,[6] Chile, Senegal,[7] Peru[10 and Morocco.

In 2015, it participates in Expo Milano 2015 by being a promoter of thematic conferences focused on the value of water,[8] aimed at promoting the importance of11 precision irrigation.[9] As an official partner of Bologna Fiere, it contributes to the creation of the Biodiversity Park within the exhibition space, handling the design, installation and maintenance of the irrigation system.

In 2022 it signs a strategic and commercial agreement with Netsens,[10] a leader in smart-farming systems, to strengthen its offering in the foreign market. In 2023, it obtains a 2.9 million euro support from SIMEST,[14 a CDP Group company that supports the growth of Italian companies worldwide, to open a production plant in Chile.In 2015, it participates in Expo Milano 2015 by being a promoter of thematic conferences focused on the value of water,'11 aimed at promoting the importance of11 precision irrigatio[11][12]

Irritec's irrigation solutions have won international recognition. Among them, the dripline patent EXXtreme Tape[13][14] in 2020 won the #Agrifuture award on good innovation practices in the agribusiness sector, thanks to which the company participated in Expo Dubai 2020 as an Italian best practice.[15]

In 2021 the company is recognized among the 100 excellent Italian companies in the ranking of sustainable businesses compiled by Credit Suisse and Kon Group.[16] In 2023 it is main partner of1the Italian Business & SDGs Annual Forum, an annual event promoted by the UN Global Compact network in Italy.

In 2024 SFIDA, a smart and IoT system for optimizing resources and improving crop nutrient qualities, funded by ERDF and the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, with advice from La Sapienza University (Rome), Catania University and Wageningen University, is awarded the 2024 Signaling at EIMA International.

Sustainability

Irritec is actively involved in promoting sustainable production, training and extension activities.

With the Green Fields drip-wing recovery project in Mexico,[33] in 2018 it won the EIRS Innovation Award. The company is also among the founders of the National Center for the Development of New Technologies in Agriculture, funded by the PNNR MUR - M4C2 Investment 1.4 and the italian Ministry of11 University and Research.

He is part of the Center's Industrial Strategy Committee and coordinates the activities of1 task 3.2.4 "Strategic Planning and Technologies for water, wastewater and nutrients reuse and recovery, for the development of innovative irrigation technologies.

Irritec adheres to the United Nations Global Compact program[34] and publishes the annual Communication on Progress (CoP), in which it informs stakeholders of the activities implemented and the results achieved. In 2021, the Global Compact recognized Giulia Giuffrè, Board Member and CSO of Irritec, as SDG Pioneer for sustainable management of1water.

As part of the Irritec Academy program, she developed Agri-Lab,'42 education and training projects aimed at developing countries on11the efficient use of irrigation systems, in collaboration with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

Irritec is committed to Africa and the fight against desertification.[35] On December 10, 2024, the company was represented by Giulia Giuffrè at the "Piano Mattei" meeting by the italian government.
