The Interdisciplinary Microsystems Group (IMG) is a college-wide multi-departmental education and research program within the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida. Founded in 1998, IMG focuses on the design, fabrication, characterization, and deployment of micro- and nanosystems across various industries, including healthcare, energy, security, aerospace, transportation, and consumer electronics.[1]
IMG operates under the direction of faculty from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Florida.
Research
[edit]Since its inception, IMG has been involved in over 350 sponsored research projects with a total value exceeding $150 million, of which IMG's portion is $72 million. Approximately 80% of these projects were led by an IMG faculty member as the principal investigator, and 27% involved more than one IMG investigator.
Students and research output
[edit]There are over 1400 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers credited to IMG's researchers and student. IMG has graduated 152 PhD students and has consistently maintained an impressive output of research publications. Over the most recent three years (2020-2022), IMG has averaged $4.4 million per year in research expenditures, 42 journal publications per year, and 27 conference papers per year, along with 9 graduated PhD students per year.
