inFACTS Studio is a discrete-event simulation software combined with a multi-objective optimization platform, designed for analyzing and optimizing production systems. While primarily used in manufacturing and production environments, the software has also been applied in other areas such as supply chain management.[1] and healthcare [2] A simulation model allows organizations to evaluate processes and system scenarios before implementation, optimizing both existing operations and new setups. It can support decision-making in areas such as resource allocation, capacity planning, and infrastructure investments. By identifying inefficiencies, optimizing workflows, and balancing system loads, it helps to improve overall performance and reduce waste.

Features

[edit]

inFACTS Studio provides tools for discrete-event simulation, allowing users to model and analyze systems, e.g. dynamic production environments. It includes multi-objective optimization, enabling the evaluation of multiple performance criteria simultaneously.

The software features a plugin architecture, supporting the integration of custom plugins, making it possible to develop specialized tools on top of the software, such as a scheduling tool. Simulation models are built in an 3D-environment in the latest release of the software.

History

[edit]

inFACTS Studio, the next-generation release of the former FACTS Analyzer, is a discrete event simulation software developed as a research spin-off from the University of Skövde. Now under the ownership and continued development of Evoma AB, inFACTS Studio represents an evolution of the original platform. It was developed as an academic tool for discrete-event simulation and multi-objective optimization, with development beginning in 2006 and first independent solution launched in 2009 [3]. In 2014, the software transitioned to commercial development through the company Evoma AB.

Since its commercial release, inFACTS Studio has undergone continuous enhancements. Today, it is used for industrial[4] and academic applications [5], supporting companies and researchers in optimizing complex systems across various domains.[6][7][8]
