IP Infusion Inc. is a provider of network operating systems (NOS). Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, the company operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese software company ACCESS CO., LTD. (TSE: 4813).[1] Its software solutions enable the separation of network software from proprietary hardware, allowing carriers and data center operators to utilize whitebox networking equipment.
History
[edit]IP Infusion was founded in 1999 by Kunihiro Ishiguro and Yoshinari Yoshikawa. Ishiguro was a principal developer of GNU Zebra, a foundational open-source routing suite that later influenced projects such as Quagga and FRRouting (FRR).[2] The company commercialized this technology as ZebOS, a modular routing and switching platform for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
In March 2006, the company was acquired by ACCESS CO., LTD. In 2016, IP Infusion released OcNOS (Open Compute Network Operating System), the first full-featured NOS compatible with the Open Compute Project (OCP). In later years, the legacy ZebOS stack was rebranded as OcNOS CP.
In December 2025, Tom Savoie was appointed as Chief Executive Officer to lead the company's next phase of global growth in the disaggregated networking market.[3]
Products
[edit]IP Infusion's flagship product is **OcNOS**, a modular, Linux-based NOS.
OcNOS-SP (Service Provider)
[edit]OcNOS-SP is designed for access, aggregation, and core networks. It supports disaggregated PON (OLT), Cell Site Gateways (DCSG), and broadband aggregation.[4] It includes support for timing protocols like SyncE and PTP for 5G, as well as Segment Routing (SR-MPLS, SRv6) and IP over DWDM (IPoDWDM).[5]
OcNOS-DC (Data Center)
[edit]Designed for cloud-scale fabrics and AI workloads, OcNOS-DC supports EVPN-VXLAN, RoCEv2 for lossless fabrics, and 400/800G Ethernet-based fabrics for GPU clusters.[6]
Deployments
[edit]IP Infusion's software has been trialed or deployed by various international operators, including:
- MTN Group: Approved IP Infusion as a designated supplier for its pan-African open networking transport ecosystem.[7]
- SK Telecom: Completed a live proof-of-concept for an IPoDWDM use case leveraging IOWN Global Forum architecture and QSFP-DD transceivers.[8]
- DIGI Romania: Implemented OcNOS for broadband aggregation and international fiber expansion.[9]
- Nextlink Internet: Deployed OcNOS to enhance middle-mile transport and broadband infrastructure across 11 U.S. states.[10]
- EXATEL: Built a customized software-defined optical networking platform in Poland using OcNOS.[11]
- ASOM-Net: Deployed a Danish 400G IPoDWDM network using OcNOS and Smartoptics platforms.[12]
Recognition
[edit]IP Infusion has been designated as a "Leader" and "Outperformer" in the GigaOm Radar reports for Network Operating Systems for four consecutive years (2021–2024). OcNOS achieved MEF 3.0 Carrier Ethernet certification in October 2024.[13]
