Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT)

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT) is used to measure the temperature of the inlet air in internal combustion engines.

This sensor, in conjunction with the MAF or MAP sensor, is necessary to determine the density and volume of air entering the engine to ensure the correct air/fuel ratio.

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor is a resistor that value changes with temperature. The resistance of the thermistor decreases or increases as the intake air temperature increases.

The intake air temperature sensor detects the temperature in the intake pipe and transmits the resulting voltage signals to the ECU. The ECU then interprets the signals and influences the mixture formation and ignition angle.

Malfunctions in this sensor may cause the engine to start difficultly, increase fuel consumption, and decrease power.
