Hopsworks previously known as Logical Clocks..[1] is a platform as a service company headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden involved in the sale of products related to data warehousing and analytics, specifically in the verticals of Big Data [2], Artificial Intelligence[1] and Machine learning at scale[3], Founded on March 17, 2016 [2] the company currently employs around 42 people [4] . Hopsworks is credited for being the world’s first Enterprise and open-source Feature Store for AI [5]. The company's CEO is Jim Patrick Dowling [2] is also an associate professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology [6]. Lars Nordwall who previously served as the Chief Operating Officer and President of Field Operations at Neo4j is the current Executive Chairman at Hopsworks [7].
History
[edit]Hopsworks was officially founded in May 2016 by researchers from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and University and the Research Institutes of Sweden (RiSE) [3].
Milestones
[edit]In 2017, Hopsworks won the IEEE Scale prize in 2017 for the most scalable data processing platform [8].
In 2019, Hopsworks won the European Datascience Technology Innovation.[8]
Products
[edit]Hopsworks offers two product tiers a cloud based version which deploys a distributed system [10] and an on-premises version via on-site servers [11].
Funding
[edit]In June 2021, the sum of €5 million was received by the company during the seed investment round and was led by Industrifonden [12] .
In June 2023, the sum of $6.5 million led by Vendeep funding to expand its commercial operations and footprint in the USA was also received [13][14] [15]
In November 2024, the company participated in a matchmaking event in Singapore to raise more money for its expansion[16]
Community Initiatives
[edit]In 2021, Hopsworks organised its first annual feature store summit, a conference that allows companies to discuss data management solutions, use cases and advancement in AI systems [17].
Collaborations
[edit]In July 2024, Hopsworks began embedding NVIDIA NIM inference microservices into its products [18].
In August 2024, Hopsworks announced a partnership with OVHcloud, a European based cloud provider to make AI development and deployment more affordable and compliant with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act[19].
