Homebase (software)
[edit]Homebase is a workforce management software company headquartered in San Francisco, California, with additional offices in Houston, Denver, and Toronto. The company provides scheduling, time tracking, payroll, and other workforce management tools primarily for small and medium-sized businesses with hourly employees.[1] As of 2024, Homebase reported serving over 100,000 businesses and approximately 2 million employees in the United States.[2]
History
[edit]Homebase was founded in 2014 by John Waldmann and Rushi Patel.[3] The company launched its scheduling and time tracking platform in 2015, initially targeting restaurants and retail businesses.[4]
In 2016, Homebase secured $6 million in Series A funding.[5] This was followed by a $20 million Series B round in 2018 led by Bain Capital Ventures.[6] In July 2021, the company raised $71 million in Series C funding led by GGV Capital, with participation from Bain Capital Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and other investors including actor Matthew McConaughey.[7] In April 2024, Homebase secured an additional $60 million in Series D funding led by L Catterton and Emerson Collective, bringing its total investment to approximately $169 million.[8]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Homebase's aggregated labor data became a frequently cited resource for tracking small business employment trends. This data was referenced by economists and news outlets including Business Insider, NPR, and The New York Times.[9][10] In 2020, the company expanded its offerings to include payroll processing and earned wage access features.[11]
Products
[edit]Homebase offers cloud-based workforce management software that includes employee scheduling, time clock and time tracking, payroll processing, team communication, hiring and onboarding tools, labor law compliance tracking and more.[12]
The platform integrates with various point-of-sale systems, accounting software, and payroll providers.[13] Homebase employs a freemium business model, offering basic services at no cost to single-location businesses, with paid tiers for additional features and multi-location support.[14]

Fit Small Business named it one of the best employee scheduling software for small businesses in 2024, citing its intuitive interface, free tier, and feature-rich mobile app.[15] Business Insider also have cited Homebase’s labor data as a reliable early indicator of employment trends, particularly during the COVID-19 recovery.[16]
