Healing Hotels of the World (HHoW) is a global hospitality membership organisation headquartered in Cologne, Germany. It was founded in 2006 by Anne Biging and Elisabeth Ixmeier, and certifies and curates member hotels focused on holistic health and healing.[1][2][3]

History

[edit]

Healing Hotels of the World was founded in 2006 by Anne Biging, a former tourism marketing executive and journalist, and Dr. Elisabeth Ixmeier, who had previously served as a managing director at an international tourism marketing organisation.[1][4]

In 2013, Biging and Ixmeier co-authored a book titled Healing Hotels of the World, published by teNeues (ISBN 9783832796334).[5] In 2014, the organisation launched Just Breathe Mag, an online magazine covering holistic health, mindfulness and sustainability.[1]

In 2018, the organisation introduced a formal Healing Certification process for member hotels.[3][6] In a subsequent expansion, the organisation introduced an Urban Healing Collection alongside its existing Resort Collection.[7][8]

Membership and certification

[edit]

Membership in Healing Hotels of the World requires hotels to pass a certification audit based on the organisation's "Healing Excellence Standards", which the organisation states comprise over 700 criteria across twelve operational areas, including atmosphere, cuisine, healing modalities, staff training and sustainability.[3][6] As of 2026, the organisation reports more than 70 member hotels across 35 countries on five continents, organised into a Resort Collection and an Urban Collection.[7]

Activities

[edit]

The organisation convenes an annual industry conference called the Healing Summit, attended by member hotels, healing practitioners and travel professionals.[9] Co-founders Anne Biging and Elisabeth Ixmeier have spoken at industry events including the Future Hospitality Summit and World Travel Market London.[10][11]

In 2022, the organisation introduced the Healing Luminary Program, a training and accreditation initiative for travel advisors specialising in healing tourism.[12]
