HackUPC is a 36-hour annual hackathon hosted by hackers@UPC, a Computer Science student organization at Polytechnic University of Catalonia(UPC) and first student hackathon in Spain.[1] [2]
History
[edit]The idea of organizing HackUPC originated in 2015, driven by a group of students from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) who had previously participated in international hackathons. Inspired by these experiences, they decided to create a similar event in Barcelona with the aim of building a community similar to the ones formed at such events.
Before launching HackUPC, the organizers held a preliminary event called KairosHacks, a 24-hour hackathon held in Barcelona. This initial event helped test the organizational model and generate interest within the local community.[3][4]
With the experience gained from organizing KairosHacks and the community that was created, the idea of starting a hackathon connected to UPC took shape. Since then, the event has been held annually, growing in size and international reach. Over the years, HackUPC has become one of the largest university hackathons in Europe, attracting more than 700 students from around the world.[5]
