GreyB is a Singapore-headquartered research and consulting firm specializing in intellectual property (IP) analytics and innovation strategy.[1] The company supports enterprises and law firms in areas such as patent due diligence, licensing assessments, and research and development (R&D) planning.
History
[edit]GreyB was founded in 2007, initially offering prior art search services to support IP litigation. Over time, its service portfolio expanded to include patent landscaping, freedom-to-operate analysis, and IP strategy consulting.
In 2014, GreyB was included in the Red Herring Asia Top 100, a list recognizing emerging private technology companies in the region.[2] In 2016, it was recognized in the Singapore Business Review’s Management Excellence Awards for its organizational growth.[3]
In 2019, the company’s research into SEPs in the 5G sector was reported by several industry media outlets including Bloomberg,[4] Light Reading,[5] and Telecoms.com.[6] The same year, GreyB collaborated with U.S.-based firm Amplified AI to conduct an SEP essentiality audit, which was covered by IAM Media[7] and Managing IP.[8]
Services and Products
[edit]GreyB offers services related to IP analytics, litigation support, licensing strategy, and technology scouting. These include SEP analysis, patent portfolio benchmarking, and Information Disclosure Statement (IDS) management.
The company has also developed internal platforms to support its services. One of its proprietary tools, Slate, provides a searchable index of patents and scientific publications. In 2023, Slate received the CODiE Award for Best Content Management Platform.[9]
In parallel, GreyB researchers have contributed to the development of PQAI (Patent Quality Artificial Intelligence), an open-source initiative focused on improving patent search through AI-driven semantic analysis. The project, co-authored by team members including Mahesh Maan, was featured on the USPTO's Open Data Portal, highlighting efforts to make patent analytics more transparent and collaborative[10]. This initiative has also been independently reviewed by legal and tech writers.[11]
Additionally, members of GreyB’s team have filed patents related to the use of artificial intelligence in intellectual property analysis and prior art retrieval.[12]
Media Mentions and Recognitions
[edit]Reports and research by GreyB have been cited by international media outlets such as BBC[13], CNBC[14], and IPWatchdog[15], in articles covering patent-related developments and intellectual property issues.
In 2019, GreyB’s Catalyst platform won an Edison Award in the "Artificial + Human Intelligence" category, recognizing innovation in applied analytics.[16]
In 2022, company director Deepak Syal was profiled in Success Mindsets, a leadership book published by Simon & Schuster.[17] In 2023, director Chakshu Kalra was listed in the IAM Strategy 300, an industry ranking of professionals involved in IP strategy.[18]
In 2025, The Times of India featured a GreyB report ranking India’s top 50 inventors based on patent filings between 2016 and 2023.[19]
