Gatewatcher is a French software publishing company specializing in cybersecurity. It notably develops technologies for detecting cyberattacks.

History

[edit]

Gatewatcher was founded in 2015 by engineers who graduated from ESIEA.[1][2]

It joined the Hexatrust association, which brings together French companies in the cybersecurity sector,[3] and in 2019 won the first cyber challenge organized by the Ministry of Armed Forces, in partnership with the company HarfangLab.[2] It also signed a partnership agreement on "cyberprotection" with the ESIEA group, the Minister of the Interior, PwC, and Wallix.[4] Finally, in 2020, it acquired LastInfoSec, a company specializing in threat intelligence.[5]

In 2019, Gatewatcher received the security visa issued by the French National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) for the qualification of its advanced threat detection solution, Trackwatch,[2] which was renewed in 2025. These systems benefit from a First Level Security Certification, which confirms a high level of hardening against attempts to disable detection systems. These qualifications allow critical infrastructure operators to meet the requirements set by the French Military Programming Law.[6] Trackwatch is the first cybersecurity detection probe dedicated to critical infrastructure operators,[7][8] and is used, for example, by the Monegasque Digital Security Agency.[9]

The rise in cyberattacks has driven the company’s growth, with revenue doubling in a single year in 2021,[10] and it began an international expansion strategy.[11] It then launched its own Network Detection and Response (NDR) solution.[12] In 2022, Gatewatcher completed its first fundraising round, raising 25 million euros,[10] and moved into the Cyber Campus. The following year, Gatewatcher launched an assistant based on generative artificial intelligence.[13]

Gatewatcher’s CEO was invited by Emmanuel Macron to attend the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos.[14][15] That same year, Gatewatcher was selected to receive support from the French government's ETIncelles program, which aims to help high-potential SMEs grow into mid-sized companies,[16] and ANSSI also qualified its network TAPs.[17] Detection probes developed by the company are promised for deployment in Ukraine.[18]

In 2025 Gatewatcher has received €25 million in funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) as part of a venture debt scheme aimed at supporting its growth. This is the largest investment of its kind made by the EIB in the cybersecurity sector. The funding is in line with the EIB’s objectives to strengthen cyber resilience at the European level.[19][20] In June 2025, Gatewatcher was placed in the "Visionary" category of Gartner’s Magic Quadrant, dedicated for the first time to the NDR market, alongside ten other evaluated vendors.[21]

Activity and products

[edit]

Gatewatcher offers cybersecurity tools designed for threat detection, network traffic analysis, and optimizing incident response. Its partners notably include Orange Cyberdefense, Capgemini, Sopra, Airbus, Atos, and Thales.[22]

Gatewatcher develops an NDR platform based on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cyber threat intelligence (CTI) technologies to detect abnormal behavior in information systems in real time.[23][24] This NDR solution is deployed across various sectors, including operational technology areas such as defense (with KNDS)[25] or electronics (with Lynred).[26] Gatewatcher develops CTI tools, such as a free browser extension that provides real-time visibility into cybersecurity threats.[27] Gatewatcher also offers an intelligent assistant based on generative artificial intelligence, called Gaia.[28]
