GINA Software is a Czech software company that originated in the South Moravian Innovation Center in Brno.
Software mapping technology for computers, tablets, and mobile devices that enables users to navigate difficult terrain, coordinate teams, and exchange information. GINA is used by humanitarian organizations, integrated rescue systems, as well as firefighters, emergency services, and other security forces.
It had its first practical test in 2010 during the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. Since then, it has been used in responding to the tsunami in Japan, as well as conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and many African countries. GINA is also an official supplier to the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.[1]
Its main products include mapping software for crisis management and security services, GINA (Geographic Information Assistant).[2]
Products
[edit]Smart CAD
[edit]The company's main product is Smart CAD (computer-aided dispatch),[3] an advanced web-based platform for dispatching and coordination, specifically designed for the crisis management and security sectors. The platform enables operators, dispatchers, and emergency units to enhance the efficiency of their responses.[4]
Tactical AVL
[edit]Tactical AVL (automatic vehicle location), formerly known as GINA Central, is software designed to provide a higher level of operational awareness and enable effective decision-making during crisis situations through advanced geographic information system (GIS) features.[5]
GINA Tablet
[edit]An application for emergency vehicles specifically designed for firefighters, emergency medical services, and other security forces. It can be easily integrated with any operational or dispatch system and provides all responding units with key information for effective management and coordination of responses.[6]
GINA Mobile
[edit]GINA Mobile is an app that enhances coordination between units in the field. With secure team communication, responding units can easily stay connected and effectively handle emergency situations. Mapping resources and tactical drawings directly on the map help units with orientation, collaboration, and maintaining an overview even in dynamic situations.[7]
History
[edit]The beginnings of GINA Software
[edit]The roots of the company go back to 2010, when Zbyněk Poulíček and Boris Procházka, then developers and students, were looking for a way to use technology to help people in crisis situations. In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, they contributed to the development of the first version of the GINA (Geographic Information Assistant) system, designed to coordinate rescuers directly in the field. The early version featured a simple digital map that allowed users to share their location in real-time. This approach significantly improved communication between teams in environments with limited infrastructure. Due to its successful deployment in humanitarian aid efforts following the earthquake in Haiti, the product was used in 2011 by European Union delegation workers, who adapted it for mapping the occurrence of cholera in the affected area.[8]
Building on the successes of these humanitarian missions, the system was further developed in collaboration with non-governmental organizations and first responders. Gradually, incident management and situational awareness software was created, tailored to the needs of both field teams and operators in the back office. The product was named GINA, standing for Geographic INformation Assistant, and became the foundation for further development of technologies focused on crisis management and coordination.
International deployment and collaboration
[edit]Since its inception, GINA Software has collaborated with a number of international organizations and institutions. Its systems have been deployed by organizations such as the Czech Red Cross, Save The Children, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).[9] The company also supplies its solution to the European Space Agency (ESA). GINA Software also collaborates with companies such as Garmin, Sygic, Milestone, Teltonika, and Taiit Communication.[10]
Present and vision
[edit]The company's main product has become Smart CAD – a modern web-based dispatch system for crisis management and the private sector. It serves as a tool for quick and accurate incident management, call reception, unit dispatch, communication between dispatchers, field workers, and commanders, and ensures data sharing, navigation, media transfer, and a visual overview of the situation.
The mission of GINA Software remains the same – to save lives through technology. The company's vision is a world where no crisis situation goes unanswered due to a lack of information or poor coordination. By using tools that connect people in the field with those making decisions, GINA Software is changing the way organizations respond to emergencies, disasters, or security threats.
Awards
[edit]The company has received numerous prestigious awards throughout its existence, confirming its innovation and positive impact on society. Among the most significant of these are:
- SDGs AWARD WINNER 2019 – award for the Overall Winner of 2019.[11]
- Deloitte FAST50 2018 – special recognition in the category of companies with significant social impact, the Social Impact Award.[12]
- Galileo 2012 – regional winner of the competition in the field of European space technologies.
- Imagine Cup 2010 – winner of the student competition in the technology field.[13]
