Fudge Pops and Fudge Bars are ice pops that consist of a chocolate flavored base, typically flavored with cocoa powder and thickened with corn starch[1] or egg yolks. It is unlike other ice pops, since it has a texture more similar to ice cream. Fudgsicles (originally and alternatively known as Fudgicles) are a brand of ice pop created by Popsicle[2]. As a result of it's popularity the term "Fudgsicle" has become a generic trademark. They are a staple of ice cream trucks[3] and are offered by many frozen dessert brands under a variety of names and styles[4].
Varieties
[edit]The terms "Fudge Bar", "Fudge Pop" and "Fudgsicle" are often used interchangeably in colloquial language. However, brands usually use the term "Fudge Bar" is usually used to refer to a dessert with a more traditional rectangular ice pop shape, while "Fudge Pops" refer to the slimmer shape specifically associated with the Fudgsicles and Popsicle. They are sold in many flavors and variations, such as white chocolate, dark chocolate, low-calorie, low-fat, and fat free[5]. Fat-free fudge bars have become a popular alternative for ice cream in low-fat diets[6].
