FlightSimExpo is large, annual aviation and flight simulation convention that features flight simulation setups, software and hardware announcements, and exhibits and workshops.[1][2]

The event is organized and held by Flight Simulation Association,[3] a community of aviation enthusiasts, and first took place between the 9th of June and the 10th of June 2018 at the Flamingo Resort in Las Vegas.[4][5] It most recently took place between the 27th of June and the 29th of June 2025 at the Rhode Island Convention Center[6] with an attendance of nearly 3,000 and over 80 exhibitors.[7]

History

[edit]

FSExpo 2018

[edit]

The first FlightSimExpo was held from the 9th of June - the 10th June 2018 at the Flamingo Las Vegas Resort.[8] The event sold out, with over 1,100 attending, 45 exhibitors and 21 speakers.[9] 46% of attendees were real life pilots, the rest being aviation enthusiasts.

Announcements included GSX Level 2 and PMD Global Flight Ops.[10] Exhibotrs included Aerosoft, FlyJSim, Laminar Research (X-Plane), Lockheed Martin (Prepar3D), Orbx, and Navigraph.[11] The event captured attention as it was new and successful.[12]

FSExpo 2019

[edit]

FlightSimExpo 2019 took place from the 7th of June - the 9th of June 2019 at the Renaissance Orlanddo resort in Florida.[13] 1,600 attended, as well as 63 exhibitors.[14]

The event included panels from Prepar3D and X-Plane, as well as YouTubers.[15]

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was announced days after the event.

FSExpo 2020 (Cancelled)

[edit]

FlightSimExpo 2020 was originally slated to return to Las Vegas from the 12th of June to the 14th of June 2020 at the Tropicana hotel.[16] Over 45 sponsors and exhibitors were expected to attend.[17]

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was officially cancelled in April 2020. The decision was made after letting the community vote on whether they should run a virtual expo. 46% voted to cancel outright and only 25% were interested in a virtual expo.[18]

FSExpo 2021

[edit]

FlightSimExpo 2021 took place between the 24th of September and the 26th of September 2021 at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego, California. The event offered an option for participants to attend online as well in a hybrid in-person/virtual event.[19]

Around 700 people attended in person, with attendees from over 40 countries tuning in via a live stream. 25 exhibitors attended, and 30 seminars took place which were all streamed live.[20]

At the event, Laminar Research unveiled new preview footage of X-Plane 12. The US Air Force and NTSB ran presentations on how flight simulation is used in the real world to enhance aviation safety.[21]

FSExpo 2023

[edit]

No event took place in 2022—instead it was used as a planning year. In June 2022, it was announced that FlightSimExpo 2023 would take place in Houston, Texas at the Lone Star Flight Museum between the 23rd of June and the 25th of June 2023.[22]

Over 1,900 attended, the largest crowd so far, from over 30 countries.[23] Over 70 exhibitors attended as well. Key announcements included BeyondATC , an AI-powered ATC system, new Thrustmaster hardware, new add-ons by Microsoft for Microsoft Flight SImulator, and news from iniBuilds that their next aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator would be the Airbus A300-600.[23]

Other organizations such as Asobo, VATSIM, IVAO, PilotEdge, Turtle Beach and more also attended.[24][23]

FSExpo 2024

[edit]

FlightSimExpo 2024 returned to Las Vegas and took place between 21st of June and the 23rd of June 2024. The Tropicana hotel was originally selected as the venue, until Tropicana's unexpected closure announcement when it was relocated to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.[25]

The event achieved record-breaking attendance, with over 2,440 people attending in real life and a further 343 virtual attendees, and tickets selling out.[26] Lots of exhibitors attended, including names like iniBuilds, TFDi Design, WINWING, Navigraph, Laminar Research, Thrustmaster and more.[27][28]

There were major announcements at the event, including preview sessions for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and the announcement by Microsoft that MSFS had reached 15 million unique users globally.[29]

The dates and location for FSExpo 2026 were also announced.[31]
