Draft:FOLD Production Music

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FOLD Music (FOLD Production Music) is a British global production music company.[1][non-primary source needed] Founded in Shoreditch, London in 2023,[2] the company consists of twenty three labels, which are co-created with many independent labels and publishers, such as Mute Song, Domino Publishing, Warp Publishing, Erased Tapes, Tummy Touch, Accidental Records, Def Presse, DMY, Discotexas, EPM, Erased Tapes, Fat Cat, All Centre, Friends of Friends, Minds On Fire, INNI, First Word, Moor Music, Psychotic Reaction, Untitled (Recs), Brawl.[3][non-primary source needed] FOLD focuses on writing and producing music for use in media.

FOLD has been featured on major TV networks around the world such as the BBC, ITV, Netflix, HBO (from Dramas to documentaries[4] to sports[5]) as well as being used extensively in advertising for brands such as Burberry and Balmain,[6][non-primary source needed] amongst others.

FOLD is the first and only production music library that works exclusively with established commercial music artists.

The Library was launched by Paul Sandell (Domino, EMI Production Music and KPM) and Gavin O’Shea, co-owner of Lo-Editions and independent label Lo Recordings promoting an artist-led approach as well as offering a fair royalty to the artists.[7]

The approach of FOLD takes inspirations from composers like Delia Derbyshire, Daphne Oram and the Radiophonic Workshop who were creating more experimental music for ordinary TV broadcasts,[7] as well as referencing Philip Glass and his music 'Geometry of Circles' created for Sesame Street.[8]

The company is notable for allowing all writers retain ownership of their material in the library, which is breaking the traditional production music model where the libraries own both the publishing and the master rights. Alongside this, FOLD offers it's writers a higher royalty share than the traditional industry standard of 50%.[9]
