Exotec [eɡ.zo.tɛk] (formerly Exotec Solutions) is a Startup company founded in 2015 and headquartered in Croix in the Hauts-de-France region. The french company develops solutions that combine Robotics and software to optimize picking and logistics for wholesale, industry, and online retail.

History

[edit]

The company was founded in June 2015..[1] by Renaud Heitz and Romain Moulin[2], two former employees of BA Systèmes[3]. In its founding year, Exotec raised €340,000 from business angels[2]

Exotec is developing an automated picking system consisting of a fleet of Skypod robots. These are equipped with a rotating scanner to orient themselves and move autonomously. They can work in groups thanks to embedded robot software and a server called Fleet Control, which monitors and coordinates the robots' actions.[3]. The system is primarily aimed at e-commerce retailers in the cultural and fashion sectors, but also in the food and retail sectors, to supply stores without their own inventories. It reduces the walking distances of warehouse employees and optimizes picking speed[2]

In December 2016, Exotec announced a second round of financing worth €3.3 million.[2]

One of the first customers was Cdiscount, which implemented the Skypod system in Bordeaux in 2017.[4]. In 2018, they received the David and Goliath Award for this collaboration[5].

In June 2018, Exotec raised €15 million[6] and relocated its production to Croix[7].

In 2019, Exotec entered into partnerships with AHS and Uniqlo[8][9]

In 2020, the company raised €77 million[10][11] and was included in the Next40 in 2021[12]. In January 2022, Exotec was valued as the 25th French unicorn after raising $335 million in funding[13]
