Essential Tides, is a Norwegian indie band fronted by the main songwriter Marcus André Habberstad Christensen. The band has gone through lineup changes, but longest acting members are Marcus, Herman Bergum-Jonassen, and Kristian Eskelund.
History
[edit]2021-2023: Songwriting and solo projects.
[edit]During his years in Jessheim Videregående skole, Marcus began writing demos and texts for music that had brewed in his mind for a long time, and began the project Essential Tides which would eventually evolve into the band of the same name during his stay at the border school the Folk high school Viken
Autumn 2023-Summer 2024: Essential Tides.
[edit]During the back half of 2023, Marcus on vocals and guitar, Herman on synth, Kristian on drums, Mathias Frostestad on bass, and Sebastian Juliusen on guitar, all met when they attended the Folk high school Viken and formed the band around the demos written the previous years with Marcus, Herman, and Kristian being the main song writers working as the "core band". Having made an expansive repertoire, they began playing live shows across Gjøvik, playing at student houses and city stages.
Working with producer and Viken Inspector Øyvind Ekse, they released their first single Respawn in the 23 of february, 2024. Working quickly and efficiently, they recorded and produced two more of their songs, being Leaving a Friend on the 5 of April, and My intention on the 5 of July.
At the end of the year, the future of the band was uncertain as the musicians all had different paths forward. Marcus, Herman, and Kristian stayed to attend a second year at Viken, while Mathias was drafted for military service, and Sebastian took a year off to work.
