Elyce Arons is an American entrepreneur, fashion executive, and co-founder of the brands Kate Spade New York and Frances Valentine. She is currently chief executive officer (CEO) of Frances Valentine.[1] Arons is known for her long creative partnership with designer Kate Spade and her influence in the accessories and fashion industry.
Early life
[edit]Arons was raised on a farm in Kansas.
Education
[edit]She attended the The University of Kansas and later Arizona State University, where she met future collaborator Kate Brosnahan (later Kate Spade). The two became close friends during college.[2]
Career
[edit]After her studies, Arons worked in fashion marketing.[3] In 1993, she joined Kate and Andy Spade and Pamela Bell to launch the Kate Spade brand. Their handbag line became iconic for its bold color, simplicity, and accessible luxury. The company expanded into apparel, shoes, home goods, and more.[4] In 2006, the founders sold the company to the Neiman Marcus Group. In 2016, Arons co-founded Frances Valentine with Kate and Andy Spade, building on their design philosophy of joy, individuality, and vintage inspiration.[5] Following Kate Spade’s death in 2018, Arons became CEO of Frances Valentine. In 2025, she published the memoir We Might Just Make It After All: My Best Friendship with Kate Spade, which debuted on the New York Times bestseller list. She was named 2025 Kansan of the Year by the Kansas Society of Washington, D.C.[6] More recently, Arons and Frances Valentine partnered with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing diabetes-related vision loss. This collaboration was featured in The New York Times in October 2025.[7]
Personal life
[edit]Arons is married to Andy Arons, co-founder of [[Gourmet Garage]], a New York City based specialty grocery chain.[8] The couple lives in New York City and have three daughters.
