The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) (Arabic: الوكالة المصرية للشراكة من أجل التنمية), is a governmental agency affiliated to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was established by Prime Ministerial Decree No. 959 of 2013, merging the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa and the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with the Commonwealth. The agency's first Secretary-General, Professor Hazem Fahmy, was appointed on May 7, 2014.[1] President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced the creation of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development in his speech during the Twenty third African Union's Summit at the Estadio de Malabo, then the agency started functioning officially on July 1, 2014.
Objectives
[edit]- The Agency operates in accordance with the latest operating procedures of development agencies in developed countries as a development arm of Egyptian foreign policy.
- The Agency primarily focuses on supporting major development projects in Africa and other friendly developing countries, focusing on development areas such as communications, transportation, information technology, health services, agriculture, and energy. It also transfers Egyptian expertise and trains cadres in various fields.
- The Agency works in coordination with other relevant ministries in the country to establish a genuine partnership with the private sector, regional and international financing institutions, in addition to developing mechanisms for trilateral cooperation with other agencies and countries in the field of providing expertise, holding training courses, and other cooperation programs.
