Eclipse Breaker[1] is a roguelike action role-playing game game developed and published by Lunar Workshop Games. It is in development for Windows, with a demo released on Steam[2] in April 2025.

Players control Ember, the warrior who vanished. [3]25 years ago, she stood at the edge of history, ready to defeat the rogue sun goddess Solara. Then, in the blink of an eye, she was gone. Now, she’s back only to find that the world has moved on, the sun is still missing, and everyone thinks she’s a legend… or blames her for everything. To restore the world’s light, Ember must battle through the ever-shifting Divine Realm, face elemental gods, and confront Solara herself—again and again until the cycle is broken. Each run contains a random series of rooms populated with enemies and rewards. The game features an Active Time Battle combat system, where the player queues up their attack or special abilities but must gain enough stamina before it engages. The enemies follow this same system, which means the player must dodge and parry attacks while waiting for their own to recharge.

Gameplay

[edit]

The player controls Ember, who is an in-game character that has been on "pause" for 25 years. Her goal is to defeat the Sun God, Solara, and save her realm. Along her quest, she encounters her fallen companions from years past that grant her abilities to fight the enemies within this procedurally generated dungeon. The game world is divided between five planned biomes; fire, ice, earth, water and lightning.

The game is presented in an isometric view, with the player controlling Ember. The player starts a run by fighting through several arenas drawn from a pre-determined layout, with the order they appear in and the enemies that appear being randomized. The game features an Active Time Battle system. The player has a primary attack, a special attack determined by their fallen companion and an Ultimate ability, alongside the abilities to dash, block and parry. Throughout each arena, the player will receive augments to be selected that include new abilities or enhancing existing ones in the forms of Equipment and Prima. Prima comes in a variety of forms similar to biomes (fire, ice, earth, water and lightning) and add additional effects to their attacks. For example, Fire Prima may incite burning on enemies that are struck by the player.

The player moves through arenas, protecting their health points while gradually make their way to Solara; after clearing an arena, the player is offered rewards, allowing them to gain new equipment or Prima. If Ember's health points drop to zero, she is defeated and return to the Temple, where the player can select discovered Companions to aid them and unlock new passive abilities from the Constellation, a skill tree that expands progressively throughout the game.

Plot

[edit]

Eclipse Breaker is positioned as a faux remake of a roguelike game released during the PlayStation era in 1997.[4] When the player begins the game as the hero, Ember, they are informed of events that have taken place between then and now, including the fall of beloved companions and the rise of elemental enemies. Ember vows to vanquish her greatest foe, the Sun God Solara, who she was battling before the game had ceased to be played in 1997.
