DesktopIP is an Ireland-based cloud computing and virtualization technology company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. It was one of the early adopters of cloud computing in Southeast Asia, particularly focusing on research and development in Indonesia.[1] DesktopIP specializes in virtualization technology, which enables a single physical computer to allocate its resources across multiple operating systems. [2] The company operates alongside major industry players such as Microsoft, VMware, and AWS.

DesktopIP offers products and services that assist organizations in virtualizing their desktops, applications, and IT infrastructure. The company’s services include cloud infrastructure services, such as public and private on-premise cloud solutions, as well as Software as a Service (SaaS) products like collaboration platforms and productivity applications.[3]

DesktopIP has achieved Domestic Component Level (TKDN) scores for its digital products, including IfVirty (83.28%)[4], Jaybod (87.71%)[5], and Qubiql (89.56%)[6]. These scores reflect compliance with Indonesia's local industry regulations. DesktopIP’s services are used in various sectors, including education, transportation (especially by state-owned enterprises), and healthcare.

History

[edit]

Early History

[edit]

The rise of computing and the internet led to cloud computing, transforming global technology. [7] In 2002, VMware pioneered server virtualization with ESX Server, [8] while Citrix entered desktop virtualization by acquiring XenSource. [9] Building on these innovations, DesktopIP introduced Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) in 2007, combining software and hardware virtualization. The objective aims to enhance efficiency by enabling seamless access to critical work data anytime, anywhere.

2022 - Present

[edit]

During its research and development (R&D) DesktopIP has built a cloud stack infrastructure that includes IfVirty, IfVlynx, and IFV, offering several cloud models for various industries. The company continues to advance its technology and contribute to Indonesia's infrastructure development.[10]

Service

[edit]

DesktopIP provides various digital services from IaaS (infrastructure as a service) with multiple forms adjusting users' needs including:

IfVirty

[edit]

A platform designed to virtualize IT infrastructure, with backup solutions and customizable infrastructure based on specific requirements.[3]

DesktopIP also develops its SaaS (Software as a Service) for productivity and teamwork purposes, including:

Jaybod

[edit]

A cloud storage application with collaboration features for storing, sharing, and organizing files.[3]

Qubiql

[edit]

Qubiql is a productivity tool that provides various productivity methods for users.[3]

Strategic Collaboration

[edit]

In 2022, DesktopIP partnered with PT INTI and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to develop cybersecurity infrastructure in Indonesia, with a focus on strengthening national security and reducing reliance on foreign cloud services.[11][12]

On September 30, 2024, PT DesktopIP Teknologi Indonesia (DesktopIP), in collaboration with one of the shipbuilding companies, PT Maju Maritim Indonesia (MMI), launched the Maritime Digital Infrastructure (MDI) platform.[13] Inaugurated by the Chief of Presidential Staff, Moeldoko, the developed MDI platform has achieved a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) score of over 80%.[14] The implementation of MDI focuses on operational efficiency, data security, and support for the shipbuilding industry in the global market.[15][16]

In 2025, DesktopIP partnered with Aplikadia.biz.id, Indonesia’s digital catalog platform for software and web applications. This collaboration enables Aplikadia to expand its software catalog using DesktopIP’s marketplace engine, IfVirty Marketplace.[17]

Awards

[edit]

In December 2024, DesktopIP’s cloud infrastructure service, IfVirty, was awarded First Runner-Up in the ICT Services category at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA).[18][19]

Challenges

[edit]

During its operations, DesktopIP has encountered several challenges, including competition with technology companies from developed countries. Developing nations remain dependent on more advanced countries, this is also reinforced by the dependency theory. This theory posits that developing countries depend on developed nations for trade, technology, and investment. It further suggests that developed countries, possessing greater economic and political power, shape the global economy in ways that primarily serve their own interests.[20]

One of the negative impacts of dependency towards developed countries is digital control by Large-Scale Technology Nations that cause digital colonization. Experts define digital colonization as a condition where large technology companies filter, analyze, and dominate user data for profit and market influence while providing minimal benefits to consumers or data sources. A significant negative impact of this phenomenon is the potential exploitation of data as a resource for profit and various applications, including predictive analytics.[21]
