Davoud Navabi (born 1934 in Kerman, Iran) is an Iranian translator and university lecturer.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Davoud Navabi was born in 1934 in Kerman. He completed his elementary education in his hometown and his secondary education in Tehran at Alborz College and Dar ul-Funun High Schools. At the age of twenty, he left for France. Initially, he studied medicine and pharmacy, but later turned to literature and languages, which were more in tune with his nature and talents. However, before completing his studies, he returned to Iran and, in 1964, graduated from Daneshsaray-e Aali of Tehran with top honors, earning a bachelor's degree in French language and Educational Sciences.
Career
[edit]He taught at high schools for five years, then joined the Educational Publishing Center as a translator and writer. During that time, he also earned a master's degree from the Faculty of Educational Sciences in Tehran. For nine years, he prepared articles for various cultural magazines. Meanwhile, he resumed book translation, which he had first begun in his last year of high school by translating a book by Anatole France.
In 1978, he joined the faculty at Kerman University as a lecturer. In 2001, his doctoral thesis was finally approved after a delay, and in 2002, after 37 years of teaching, he applied for retirement. In 2007, at the invitation of the university, he resumed teaching. During his service, he was twice elected head of the language department and served for nearly three years (1987–1989) as the Vice Chancellor of Academics and Research at the Faculty of Literature.
Recognition
[edit]He currently resides in Kerman, and on July 14, 2016, a tribute night was held in his honor, attended by literary figures, university officials, and the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
