Daley Mathison (* 20 July 1991 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England; † 3. June 2019 on the Isle of Man) was an English motorcycle racer.
Career
[edit]Daley Mathison was frequent starter at various road races on the British Isles like the North West 200, the Southern 100 or the Isle of Man TT. 2013 he debut on the Mountain Course of the Isle of Man at the Manx Grand Prix Newcomers A-Race, at which he finished in fifth place. 2014 he won with a Honda the Ultralightweight-Race at the Ulster Grand Prix in Norther Ireland. His Isle-of-Man-TT Career had three podium finishes in the 2016, 2017 and 2018 at the TT-Zero-Race, including second place in the year 2017 behind only Bruce Anstey riding for University of Nottingham. At the 2018 Superstock-TT Race he finished in eleventh place and in the 2017 and 2018 Senior TT Races in 13th positions both times. Mathison rode his fastest lap on the Snaefell Mountain Course in the 2018 Superstock-TT Race with an average speed of 128,054 mph (206,083 kph) and was 34. fastest rider in the track's history up until that point. 2018 he rode the second fasted TT-Zero-Lap of History with an average speed of 119,294 mph (191,985 kph). Ultimately he started 19 TT-Races with 14 finishes and three podiums and won six Silver- and eight Bronze-Replicas.[1]
Death
[edit]Daley Mathison died on 3 June 2019 at the age of 27 on the Isle of Man, in the third lap of the Superbike-Race of the 2019 Isle of Man TT on his BMW S 1000 RR on the Snugborough-Straight going into Union Mills. He has a wife and a daughter remaining.
