On January 5, 2022, Cosby H. Johnson was sworn in as the second African American mayor of Brunswick, Georgia. A native of Brunswick, Johnson was raised in a family devoted to public service—his parents were an educator and a military veteran—instilling in him a strong commitment to community leadership.
Johnson is a graduate of Brunswick High School and earned his degree from Valdosta State University. Prior to his election, he served as Vice President for Government Affairs at the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, where he played a key role in advancing efforts that led to the passage of Georgia’s hate crimes legislation and the repeal of the state’s citizen’s arrest law.
Running under the platform “Building a Better Brunswick,” Mayor Johnson has prioritized government accountability, transparency, education, and economic development throughout his tenure.[1]
