Coro Strandberg (born 1960) is a Canadian sustainability strategist, governance expert, and social purpose advocate. She is the President of Strandberg Consulting and has been influential in promoting sustainable business strategies and social purpose businesses in Canada.[1] Strandberg has contributed to the development of sustainable business models and governance practices, working with businesses, governments, and non-profit organizations to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into their operations.[2]

Biography

Early Life

Coro Strandberg was born in 1960 in Alert Bay, British Columbia, Canada. She was raised and still lives in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Education

Strandberg holds a Bachelor and Master of Social Work degree from the University of British Columbia.[3]

Public Sector Roles

Strandberg has held various positions within the British Columbia government, including serving as a Green Economy Policy Advisor and Director of Social Policy.[4] She also worked as a social planner for the City of Surrey.[5]

Vancity Credit Union

In the 1990s, Strandberg served as a director and later as Chair of the Board at Vancity Credit Union, Canada's largest community-based credit union.[6] During her tenure, she contributed to the development of Vancity's social mission and helped position the credit union as a leader in values-based banking.[7]

Strandberg Consulting

In 1999, Strandberg founded Strandberg Consulting, a firm that advises businesses, governments, and industry associations on sustainability strategies and governance.[8] Her work has involved assisting organizations in integrating ESG considerations into their operations and decision-making processes.[9]

Board Memberships and Advisory Roles

Strandberg has served as a corporate director at the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, a provincial crown corporation.[10] She is also a member of the Office of the Auditor General's sustainable development commissioner advisory panel for the Government of Canada.[11]

Canadian Purpose Economy Project

Strandberg co-founded and chairs the Canadian Purpose Economy Project (CPEP), an initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of social purpose in Canadian businesses.[12] In an interview with Forbes, she emphasized the role of business as a force for good and described the Purpose Economy as “the next evolution of capitalism.”[13] The project seeks to engage various stakeholders to create an enabling environment for social purpose businesses to thrive.[14]

Recognition

In 2015, Strandberg was named Canada's top CSR consultant by Canada's Clean50 for her leadership in sustainability consulting.¹[15]

Publications and Thought Leadership

Strandberg has authored numerous publications on sustainability governance, ESG integration, and social purpose business models.[16] Her work includes frameworks and toolkits for boards, associations, and companies seeking to embed sustainability into their operations.[17]
