CambriLearn is a South African-based global online school offering multiple recognised curricula to students aged approximately 5 to 18. It delivers online and blended learning, live and recorded classes, and supports students globally.

History

[edit]

CambriLearn was founded in 2016 in South Africa. [1] It aimed to provide a more flexible, accessible schooling alternative by offering international and local curricula.[2]

In October 2025, CambriLearn announced its registration with the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and the launch of Grade 10 (FET phase) for the IEB pathway from January 2026, with further grades to be phased in.[3]

Founders and Leadership

[edit]

The founder of CambriLearn is Ryan Swartzberg with Claudia Swatzberg and Cecilia Reineke as co-founders. [4][5][6] Ryan Swartzberg is the founder and CEO of CambriLearn Online School. Under his leadership, the school has experienced significant growth, including a notable expansion in staff over recent years.

Before CambriLearn, Ryan Swatzberg founded Top Dog Education in 2008. [7] Ryan Swatzberg, who has an educational background in actuarial science, has founded a number of start-ups and has held director roles in other organizations, reflecting a broad professional background. His work at CambriLearn emphasizes the use of technology to support personalized learning, and the school engages with its community through social media platforms. His leadership focuses on creating inclusive educational opportunities tailored to the needs of individual students.[8]

Claudia Swartzberg, serves as co-CEO and co-founder. She has a professional background in actuarial science and data analytics and previously developed the adaptive-learning platform Top Dog Education. Her own experience as a non-traditional learner influenced the school’s focus on providing flexible and personalized learning pathways.[9]

Academic leadership is provided by co-founder Cecilia Reineke, the current principal. Reineke, a qualified teacher with a degree from UNISA and extensive experience in curriculum development, manages day-to-day academic operations. This includes overseeing course design for Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, and South African CAPS programmes, as well as recruitment of teaching staff. She is supported by heads of Primary and High School phases and a team of specialist teachers who deliver lessons, provide feedback, and prepare students for examinations.[10]

Curriculum and accreditation

[edit]

CambriLearn offers multiple curriculum tracks including:

  • British International (including Cambridge & Pearson Edexcel)[11] [12]
  • South African CAPS/KABV curricula[13] [14]
  • US K-12 curriculum through online US school partner (accredited by Cognia)[15]
  • IEB pathway (from Grade 10 2026) in South Africa.[16][17]

It is internationally accredited (for example by Cognia) and claims recognition of its qualifications for university admission globally.[18] [19] CambriLearn is also SACAI Registered as a Distance Education Provider.[20]

Operations & model

[edit]

According to MyBroadBand, CambriLearn leverages an online platform offering both live and recorded lessons, marked assignments, real-time feedback, direct teacher support, and progress tracking.[21] It also offers flexibility in enrolment, self-paced options, and caters to students in more than 100 countries.[22][23][24] In South Africa it also has physical learning centres (for example in Alberton) which combine supervised in-person support for home-schooled students.[25]As part of its operations, CambriLearn has affiliates that host Cambridge Exam Centres. CambriLearn states on its website that students can sit external examinations at partner‑exam centres in South Africa[26] , Namibia[27] , the United Arab Emirates[28] , Kenya[29] , Zambia (Lusaka)[30] , Saudi Arabia (Riyadh)[31] , Mozambique[32] , Spain and the United Kingdom.[33][34] The school also states that while many assessments can be completed remotely, external examinations such as AS/A Levels and South African CAPS matric must be taken at an accredited examination centre.[35][36]

Student profile & special-needs support

[edit]

The school markets itself as suitable for diverse learners, including overseas families, homeschooling, gifted students, and those needing flexible pacing.[37] [38] Cambrilearn states that they do produce toolkits that outline which students with learning disabilities or neuro-diverse profiles they can cater for.[39][40]
